The Orchestra
Our orchestra has 32 players, of which 2 double basses, 8 cellos, 7 violas and the rest are violins. All the children are from the Vuores comprehensive school at Tampere, and their ages vary from 8-10. These new stars have started to play in the orchestra from September 2021.
The second season is going on allready. Our orchestra’s teachers are now Anniina Tikka (Violin and Viola) and Kimmo Kotilainen (Sello).
On the firs season our orchestra’s teachers were Verna Kaunisto-Feodorow (Violin and Viola) and Kimmo Kotilainen (Sello). As assistant teachers we had the advanced students from the Tampere University of Applied Sciences: Olga Iartseva (Violin and Viola), Mika Nikkanen (Double Bass) and Taru Laitala (Violin and Viola). Tero Koppinen did a great pro bono work as our technical support.
Achievements and projects
2022 Autum season opener at the School of Vuores 11th of October 2022
The teaching and rehearsal has been going on for a while allready and now it was time to shine on the stage again. Tempo-Orchestra Tampere presented four pieces at the School of Vuores during the late afternoon of 11th of October. The performance showed us all that the musical skills and the way to perform had been recalled well. Even some new tricks had been allready learned, as one new song was also performed the first time by Tempo. Relive the season opener by watching the video below.
European Union Youth Orchestra: Sharing Music In Tampere 4th of April 2022
Sharing Music in Tampere brought together the European Union Youth Orchestra, Tempo El Sistema Tampere Orchestra, the Pirkanmaa Music Institute and the young players of Tampere University of Applied Sciences into the Conservatory of Tampere. The young players rehearsed, learned and performed together.
The program included variety of different music styles and the grand finale was ”All together” performance of Ludvig van Beethoven Symphony no 9. finale Ode to Joy, Ode an die Freude, symbolizing peace in Europe.
The members of our young orchestra commented the event ”It was the most amazing thing I have ever done,” as they got their very first experience on the big stage with international orchestra with wide range of instruments.
Well done Tempo! Thank you music, for creating peace and togetherness for us all.
You may enjoy some atmosphere from the event from the videos below.

The latest news: working in pairs and a celebration for Christmas
Right after the successful concerts at Tampere Hall, we started the next project.
We started working with peer- learning right after the concerts. This method we will continue to use in the future as well. Other methods we use are, for instance, ear training and playing by heart. The notes we´ll begin to read at the beginning of January.
Just before the holidays we ended by celebrating the end of the year (like an orchestra should 🙂 ) with a concert. The celebration took place at the Vuores comprehensive school on the 9th of December.

Tampere Hall on 18th and 20th of November, 2021
Mere couple months after many of the children got their first contact with the instruments, Tempo got to perform at Tampere Hall. Our performances took place on the 18th and 20th of November, 2021 at the National Music Education Days.
On Thursday 18th we had a concert with another Tempo-Orchestra from Vantaa. The very first concert of ours was a success! In particular our orchestra was praised for the professional attitude on stage and for the great positions.
On Saturday 20th we had the Tempo-Tampere concert with the songs we had rehearsed the most: 1. Tempo Rally, 2. Ode to Joy, 3. Tempo from Vuores, 4. Canon, 5. Express Train ”Tuut Tuut”. The performance from our orchestra was described as hypnotic! We received special thanks from the principals of Tampere Music College and the Vuores comprehensive school. You may enjoy and re-live of our very first own concert from the video next to this text.

Virtual concert for the World Children’s Day on the 19th of November, 2021
While rehearsing for the Tampere Hall, Tempo Tampere also made a virtual presentation for a joint event held at the European Parliament House on 19th November 2021.
The event was organized by the Alliance for Childhood and Sistema Europe and hosted by MEP Helmut Geuking.
Our orchestra performed an excerpt from the European anthem Ode to Joy.
World Children’s Day is celebrated annually on November 20th.
National and regional news on 7th of October, 2021
After five weeks of orchestra practice the Finnish national news broadcast Yle made a report on Tempo Tampere.
The article in national news is written in Finnish, but maybe you can use the translator of your browser to read it from this link.
There are two video clips of the news attached next to this text and it really shows the excited atmosphere from the very beginning of our journey.
